Description: Come work and learn on beautiful Orcas Island. Apply for summer culinary internship program at restaurant showcasing seasonal, local, organic seafood and produce grown on our on-site garden and from fantastic Orcas Island Farms.  This is an amazing opportunity to be part of a fully functioning Seed to Table program.
Ideal candidates will be highly motivated individuals who are creative, passionate and curious about local food and sustainable agriculture. Culinary Interns will have the opportunity to learn banquet preparation as well as Line and Prep positions in a high-volume environment.  We also encourage all interns to spend time in our garden learning with our Garden Manager about planning and planting for a restaurant. Candidates should be team-oriented, dependable, able to perform well in a high pressure atmosphere and have a great attitude suited to working in an open kitchen enviroment.  Our ideal candidate also has solid baking and knife skills, an eye for presentation, and diverse skills and interests outside of the kitchen. This is a paid, full-time internship. Our 2010 season begins June 1st and ends Sept. 20th. The pay rate is $10/hr. Position: Assistant
Description: Holistic pediatric neurologist looking for an assistant to help run her practice and new Center. New space is currently undergoing green renovation and will have a small, edible permaculture forest in the back filled with healing herbs and foods and will be replete with chickens and (hopefully!) beehives. In addition to the medical practice, the center will provide programs for children and families on healthy eating, toxin-free living, backyard farming, and reconnecting with nature. This is all based on the belief that wellness grows directly from our connection to the natural world.
The candidate must be very organized, self-starting, personable and comfortable around children of all kinds, including with disabilities. Experience in an office setting is preferable. In general, the tasks primarily involve answering phones, taking payment, typing patient reports, preparing charts and sending supplements. Ideally, the candidate would be excited by and interested in the mission of our center.  
The opportunity exists for the interested candidate to play a role in organizing programming and even teaching classes that are relevant to our mission, should he or she desire. The minimum hours per week will be 20, but they may well expand over time, so some amount of flexibility is a big plus. Position available immediately. Compensation commensurate with experience of the candidate.

Description: In partnership with Wellness in the Schools (WITS), I am recruiting volunteers to help make NYC public school cafeteria food healthier and more appetizing for school children.  We work alongside NYC public school cafeteria staff to teach them better cooking skills and to help them cook healthier meals from scratch.
The volunteer commitment is one morning a week for 3 hours, for one school semester (February-June)
In order to be part of the program, volunteers must commit to the following:
• Get fingerprints approved from offices of SchoolFood. WITS will reimburse cost.
• Have proof of negative TB test (within the last year)

The series consists of one-day workshops presented over the course of 2010.  Each workshop will focus on a specific hot health topic that advocates dietary change as part of the healing plan. Panel discussions led by experts in the field, practical hands-on learning—in the kitchen—and food education activities are a vital part of this life-changing workshop experience.
