# 52 Herbal Syrups and Remedies
for What Ails You
hands-on
Get hands-on for health this winter as you prepare delicious and
effective remedies to help keep colds and flu at bay. Herbalist
and wild-foods advocate Terry-Anya Hayes shares three separate kitchen
strategies to winterize your medicine chest and maximize health
when the cold winds blow. Making your own herbal remedies is easy,
and what could be more satisfying than supporting your health with
products fresh from your own kitchen? Instead of opening a bottle
with an unpronounceable list of ingredients, you will know exactly
what goes into these remedies!
We will cook up a quartet of scrumptious herbal syrups to take by
the spoonful, pour onto pancakes, or stir into tea; a fiery anti-viral
vinegar that can also pep up a winter salad; and a batch of herbal
pills delicious enough to be served with dessert. The following
array of tasty herbal medicines will be made in sufficient quantity
to provide take-home samples for all. Elderberry-Ginger Syrup (anti-viral);
Hawthorn/Linden Syrup (cardiac and nerve support); Rose Hip-Lemon-Lavender
Syrup (Vitamin C, antibacterial, antioxidant); Wild Cherry Bark
Cough Syrup; Rosemary Gladstar's Fire Cider (the label on the bottle
should read "BREAK GLASS at the first sign of a cold");
and Slippery Elm and Echinacea Pastilles (respiratory support and
sore throat soothing). (Some organic raw honey will be used.)
