Tropical Turmeric Smoothie

Tropical Turmeric Smoothie

(Yield: Two 12-ounce servings)

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled, pitted, chopped
  • 1 ripe avocado, pitted, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons peeled and minced ginger
  • 3 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • A few grinds of black pepper
  • 2 ½ cups coconut water
  • 4 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and puree until smooth.

 

Nutrition highlights: Black pepper increases both the absorption and potency of curcumin, the major anti-inflammatory component of the spice (or rhizome/root) turmeric. Curcumin acts as a potent anti-inflammatory substance within the body. Research shows that curcumin may help to combat a variety of inflammatory health conditions like arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, and Alzheimer’s.

Cooking tip: If your mango isn’t ripe enough, add a teaspoon of organic maple syrup or honey for a touch of sweetness.
